Today, for the first time, I went to participate in an Event. I had never had any experience in going for any event or festivals except for compulsory weddings, birthday parties and gatherings. Not knowing what the Worldwide Festival was about, except for the fact that it was related to music and art, I chose the event to go. On the day itself, I was worried that I would not understand the Event and embarrassed myself, so I asked 2 friends along to the Event. We reached there in good time and were early as we had to collect our tickets that we had booked in advance. However, the events company delayed the timing of the opening by 10 minutes. So we collected our tickets ten minutes late. When we went into the site, we collected some brochures and the timing of the start of the event was different from the timeline in the same brochure! My friends and I were puzzled on when the Event will actually start and lost in the Events itself as there were not much people in the outdoor area (Courtyard) and the indoor area (Chapel). In addition to the awkward atmosphere, the guests there are not of our age group, mostly they are working adults who looks into their late twenties. It was not a very good start, so we had just sat around listening to the electric music that was playing while eating the free canapés that was served at the courtyard. At around 9.15pm, the party started to get going. The Founder, Mr Peterson had arrived and many of the DJs has switched. It was time to listen to what the festival was about. We listened to a new DJ playing on the DJ plate at the courtyard and I was surprised that the music they played was different for what I had in mind. Though it was more on the pop and electric music side, it actually has a groove in it! It was not something I had in mind, I was prepared for the head pounding and grueling music that will have shouts and guitars banging. What I experienced in the Worldwide Festival had changed my opinion of the Event. The music had me attracted and moving to the groove and steady, low beat of the bass. We enjoyed the music both in the courtyard and the chapel. It was a exhilarating event where I learnt a lot of the new genre of music itself. We had to leave early as we had school the very next morning. But it certainly is one of the best events I have attended and it was a great exposure for me.
