A Place
The design of the Place is essential as it have a direct effect of the event itself. Located in greenery near a farm, the quality of the experience by its participants is not affected by the nature of its location. The participants had to live in a camp-like condition, instead of affecting the quality of the experience for its guests, the greenery emphasis the value and motto of the Shambhala Festival, which is to celebrate humanity. Living with the nature is part of their value as well as to embrace and respect the beauty of nature. The participants of the Shambhala come into closer contact with each other and for longer period due to the area being self-contained. The participants do not usually leave the performance area till period of the festival is over.
However, the Worldwide Festival had not well utilized the area in the Singapore Arts Museum. The space was constrain and difficult to enjoy due to the hot weather. The initial period of the festival was not interesting and the placing of the guest out into the courtyard made the participants felt humid and exhausting. Also, the placing of the programs in the different sections is confusing and meaningless. The different areas of the festival discourage closer contact for its festival participants. However, the different performance area will also allow its participants to enjoy the festival in various atmospheres to cater to the different needs.
B People
The staff involve in the festival, the participants of the festival will affect the quality of the event directly. In the Shambhala Festival, the volunteers and staff are people who have participate the events for many years or have always been closely associated with the festivals, thus they are well informed of the rules and various happenings of the festival. It will help as these volunteers are able to interact with newer participants and influence them to join in with the festival in the future. Also during the Shambhala Festival, the volunteers come into closer contact with the participants due to the contained area.
In the Worldwide Festival, there are always new participants and staff. The staff may not be well acquainted with the origin of the event. On the flip side, it will expose more people into contact with the event as the event will bring in more staff and volunteers. This will indirectly introduce the event to more people.
